Do I need to pre-register?

Advanced reservations are required as there are a limited number of boards. Due to high demand you must pre-pay to reserve a board.  If no one is registered for a class the class is cancelled 4 hours before, so if you are coming with your own board, we advise you pre-register as well.  We are mindful of your time set aside for SUP Yoga or Fitness, so please arrive 15 minutes early.  We promptly paddle out at the time scheduled. Why Practice Yoga on a Stand Up Paddleboard?

Wild Spirit SUP Yoga encourages men and women to get out and enjoy nature and the beauty of Chestermere Lake.  It's an opportunity to connect mind, body & spirit through the practice of yoga on the water.  As we float and flow, we are building stamina, strength and balance and the more you come out the more you get comfortable with flowing, twisting and bending on the water.  We will conquer fears, explore basic postures and free our wild spirits!

What if I've never paddle boarded before?

Before paddling out, we'll give you a few simple instructions along with modifications to ensure that you're comfortable on the board.  We do not paddle out a far distance.  All levels are welcome!  Each class caters to your needs offering modifications for the novice through challenging the advanced.

What if I've never done yoga before?

Our yoga and fitness classes are fun and designed for all levels.  We pride ourselves on offering safe and fun classes where we offer modifications and advanced options as needed.    All levels are welcome!

Will I get Wet?

Yes, you will get wet.  You may not fall in, our boards are very stable but the surface of your board does get wet as water splashes on it as you paddle and work through yoga poses or fitness exercises.  When launching our boards your legs and hands will get wet as you have to walk in up to your knees to launch your board.

What should I wear?

There is always a chance you may fall in the water and get wet so please consider wearing technical fabrics over cotton.  Try to avoid baggy clothes and cotton as cotton takes a long time to dry and will keep you cold.  Yoga attire is ideal. Swimwear is ok when the weather is warm, but keep in mind that your yoga practice will have you moving around, so make sure you have adequate coverage in your swim wear. For evening classes you may want to bring a jacket and don’t forget your sun screen.  No shoes to be worn on paddleboards.

Where do we meet for lessons?

SUP Yoga classes are held on Chestermere Lake, Alberta, (unless otherwise stated) we launch our boards from the John Peake Park Boat Launch which is directly behind Tim Hortons.  PLEASE arrive 15 minutes prior to your lesson to pick up gear and sign your waiver.

Our paddle board yoga & fitness classes are 90 minutes, but we suggest you block two hours to give yourself time to arrive and park.

What to bring?

Drinking water (no glass), Towel, Change of clothes, Sun hat, Sunscreen and Jacket on cooler days.

When we do SUP Yoga how do I not float away?

Each board has an individual anchor that is dropped down before the Yoga portion of class begins so that we don’t drift away while focusing on our yoga practice

What if I can’t swim?

ALL participants must be able to swim; and be comfortable in and around water.  We require that all participants have swimming ability for the safety of all students.  We provide life jackets for all participants, and if you’re not a confident swimmer, you may choose to wear the floatation device throughout class. Private classes are available for non-swimmers.

Do I need to wear a PFD/Life Vest?

A Canadian Coast Guard approved PFD (Personal Floatation Device) will be provided to you for your lesson.  We wear them as we paddle out and remove them while we practice yoga or fitness.
